Project Overview
EcoFlow is a comprehensive dashboard designed to monitor and visualize energy consumption in real-time. The goal was to provide users with actionable insights into their carbon footprint and energy savings.
Key Features
- Real-time Monitoring: Live updates of energy usage across different devices.
- Predictive Analytics: Forecasting future energy needs based on historical data.
- Sustainability Score: An algorithm that calculates the environmental impact of user choices.
- Hardware Integration: Interfaces directly with smart meters via a custom Go-based API.
Technical Showcase
The frontend is built with Next.js 14, utilizing Server Components for optimal performance. The data visualization is handled by Recharts, providing smooth, animated transitions between different data views.
Backend Synergy
A high-performance backend written in Golang handles the heavy lifting of processing thousands of data points per second. We used WebSockets for real-time communication between the IoT devices and the dashboard.
Challenges & Solutions
One of the biggest challenges was handling the massive influx of telemetry data. We implemented a time-series database (PostgreSQL with TimescaleDB) to efficiently store and query large volumes of energy data without compromising on speed.
